The first Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój was held in 1946, on the 120th anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin's concerts in this spa town. Since then, the festival has been held annually and is the world's oldest continuously operating piano festival of considerable artistic prestige and international reputation.
The jubilee 75th Chopin Festival was held on August 7-15, 2020. Due to the pandemic, the artistic director Piotr Paleczny, proposed a slightly changed form. Despite enormous organizational difficulties, 17 concerts were realized. Evening recitals were played by: Yulianna Avdeeva, Federico Colli, Szymon Nehring, Dmitri Alexeev, Jan Jiracek von Arnim, Philippe Giusiano, Arcadi Volodos, Alberto Nosè, Kevin Kenner. The afternoon recitals were performed by talented young Polish pianists.
The concerts of the Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój are accompanied by master classes organized for several years. Conducted by outstanding pianist-educators and intended for Polish students of music academies. Courses in 2020 were led by prof. Dmitri Alexeev and prof. Jan Jiracek von Arnim.
